Statistics
This is the first statistical release of the External Affairs Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network. It covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which member organisations transferred their external functions to the Department, and it records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026. It was published on 6 September 2026.

Consular activity in the transition period. The figures below were compiled from the returns of member organisations and reconciled by the Office of Consular Affairs. The second column counts every case; the third counts those classified as urgent when they were opened.

Of the 612 cases opened, 549 were closed within the period and 63 remained open at establishment. The largest single group, 163 cases, concerned a lost or damaged identity record; 84 of those citizens could not wait for a replacement and were issued with an emergency travel document.

Reporting schedule. The Department publishes statistics quarterly. The first quarterly report covers the period from establishment to the end of September 2026 and is therefore shorter than a full quarter.

Notes on the figures. The notes below explain how the figures were compiled and what they do and do not include.
- Basis of the transition figures
- Figures for 10 August to 5 September 2026 were compiled from the returns of member organisations, which handled these matters under interim arrangements before the Department existed. They were reconciled by the Office of Consular Affairs, and a case reported by more than one organisation is counted once.
- What counts as an urgent matter
- A matter is counted as urgent where there is a risk to life, liberty or health, or where a citizen cannot remain where they are. The classification is made when the case is opened and is not revised afterwards, so that the published figure does not change after publication.
- Cases carried forward
- A case is counted as opened in the period in which it was first reported, and as closed in the period in which the last action was taken. Sixty-three cases were open at establishment and are counted again as open in the first quarterly report.
- Figures not yet reported
- The Department does not yet publish figures for business conducted by representations, because none had opened at 6 September 2026. Rounds attended, reports made and matters raised under an instrument will be reported from the first quarterly report onwards.
- Corrections
- Where a published figure is found to be wrong, the correction is published in the Newsroom and the figure is restated in the next quarterly report, with the original figure shown beside it.
